The live-streamed “Nijisanji Mahjong Cup” tournament announced on Sunday that a “comical” television anime adaptation of Cat Food Studio and Yostar’s free-to-play mahjong game Mahjong Soul (Jong-Tama or Jan-Tama/majsoul) has been green-lit for April. Kenshirou Morii (Anime-Gataris, BanG Dream! Girls Band Party! Pico, Grand Blues!) is directing the Jong-Tama PONG☆ anime at Scooter Films.

Two years ago, a mysterious wind swept over the Earth without warning, taking everyone’s memories with it. Wataru sets out on a journey to see if he can find other people like him, and in San Francisco, he meets a mysterious silver-haired woman named Sophia, who refuses to speak about her past. Sophia says that she is heading to New York, and decides to travel together with Wataru. As the pair make their way across America, they learn about what has happened to the rest of society, and what the essence of humanity really is.

Fuutarou Uesugi is an ace high school student, but leads an otherwise tough life. His standoffish personality and reclusive nature have left him friendless, and his father is debt-ridden, forcing his family to scrape by. One day during his lunch break, Uesugi argues with a female transfer student who has claimed “his seat,” leading both of them to dislike each other. However, his family’s livelihood is on the line so Uesugi pushes on, adamant in his resolve to rid the sisters of their detest for studying and successfully lead them to graduation.
